Description
Customer reports of slow leakage of hydraulic fluid from the input shaft seal when exposed to extremely cold temperatures for extended periods have initated upgrade kits by Eaton. Refer to Eaton Service Bulletin SB71404-32-03.
These upgrade kits for Single Brake Metering Valve Part Number 71404 and Dual Brake Metering Valve Part Number 70404-1 are available as a corrective action.
There are two options available to bring affected units into compliance
- Procure Modification Kit from Eaton for upgrade in field;
- Send the BMV to Eaton for Overhaul and Modification Kit Installation.
Warranty coverage through Boeing is available on certain aircraft serial numbers. 737 Next Generation aircraft within the Boeing warranty period as of October 3, 2006 are eligible for the modification kit at no charge.

The 737 Next Generation Brake Metering Valve Upgrade comes with a 12 month overhaul warranty and 28 day turnaround time.
Eaton manages Boeing's warranty for customers that utilize Eaton's Los Angeles facility. Customer support for this upgrade is provided through Eaton's regional customer support and technical support staff. A dedicated spares pool is also available to maximize shop performance and minimize turnaround time.
